The Clinical Education Specialist in BMT Oncology develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs for clinical staff to enhance patient care quality and regulatory compliance. This role coordinates hospital-wide training initiatives focused on continuing education, staff orientation, and professional development, specifically within the Bone Marrow Transplant and Oncology units. The specialist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure education plans align with national standards and meet the complex needs of oncology patient care.

The Leukemia/Lymphoma Unit (9800) provides care to patients who are hospitalized for Chemotherapy, pain management, symptom management related to chemotherapy and support for immunosuppression and/or neutropenia. This 34 bed unit consists of private rooms with eight hepa filtered rooms. The care is moderate to high acuity providing care with a high complexity of interventions which includes Leukemia care, Autologous Stem Cell transplants, Donor cellular infusions, post allogeneic complications, Graft vs. Host disease and a focus on Clinical trials. The multidisciplinary group of care providers includes Bone Marrow transplant physicians, oncology nurses, Case managers, coordinators, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy and psycho-social support.

Role Purpose

Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of education and practice programs for clinical staff that promote the provision of a superior patient experience for patients and their families. Coordinates and manages house wide educational programs and resources that support clinical educators and leaders at the unit/department level.

Responsibilities

  • Manages key house-wide or multidepartmental programs to support education needs of clinical staff.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates continuing education programs, curriculums for orientation and ongoing professional development of clinical staff that meet and/or exceed national standards for continuing education requirements.
  • Collaborates with administration, patient care services, leadership, shared leadership councils, staff and key department and BJC system personnel to develop education plans and implementation patient care and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyzes developmental and educational needs and evaluates effectiveness of educational activities.
  • Designs educational programs that are cost-effective, meet the needs of adult learners, and are based upon sound educational principles.
