Evergreen Fire/Rescue, founded in 1948, provides around the clock emergency medical, rescue, and fire suppression services along with community risk reduction services to nearly 26,000 residents across more than 120 square miles. Led by a Fire Chief and the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Fire Protection District, EFR consists of six divisions: Administration, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Operations, Community Risk Reduction, Maintenance, and Wildland. The volunteers and employees of each division are committed to providing exceptional service to their community of residents, business owners, employees, and visitors.

About the Position

The Fire Inspector I is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and national fire codes and standards, particularly those adopted by the Evergreen Fire Protection District. This role involves conducting inspections to ensure a reasonable level of life-safety and fire protection is maintained consistent with recognized standards and practice. The Fire Inspector I has a critical role in promoting fire safety and mitigating hazards through education, inspection, and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities Include:

The duties of this position align and evolve based on the needs of the district and additional direction from supervisor. Must be able to collaborate with other divisions to support the critical mission of the organization. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct inspections of existing buildings and occupancies to ensure and maintain compliance with fire and life-safety codes and regulations.
• Conduct inspections of special events to verify code compliance and to minimize impacts on the Operations Division’s ability to provide effective emergency services.
• Respond to commercial and school fire alarm activations as advised by the Fire Marshal.
• Maintain detailed records of inspection activities including obtaining data, completing reports, conducting data entry using the records management system, or through other documentation methods.
• Schedule and perform inspections of commercial, residential, and educational properties and buildings in a timely manner and in accordance with the adopted codes, national standards and organizational standards.
• Prepare and issue correction notices to building owners for violations of codes, including coordinating follow up inspections.
• Effectively educate and communicate with businesses, schools and community members.
• Assist with community risk reduction presentations and programs.
• Conduct fire investigations under the direction of the Fire Marshal.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience required for success:

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

• High School Diploma or GED
• Driver’s License with no major violations
• Current or ability to obtain CPR Certification
• NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications
• ICC Fire Inspector I certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related field
• Two years of fire inspector experience
• ICC Fire Inspector II certification
• Hazmat Awareness certification or higher

Job Classification: Full-time Non-Exempt

Compensation: $57,200 to $85,800
