Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Freight Dispatcher to join our team in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing the transportation of goods by efficiently scheduling and dispatching trucks and drivers. The Freight Dispatcher will serve as the primary communication link between drivers, clients, and management to ensure timely and safe delivery of freight.
Key Responsibilities:
• Schedule and dispatch drivers and freight according to customer requests and company policies.
• Monitor and track shipments, providing updates to customers and management.
• Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and vendors to resolve any issues related to freight delivery.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, routes, and driver logs.
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
• Manage freight documentation and verify all paperwork is completed accurately.
• Coordinate with warehouse personnel to optimize load planning and delivery schedules.
• Handle customer inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
• Use transportation management systems (TMS) and other software tools to manage dispatch operations.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience as a Freight Dispatcher or in a similar logistics/transportation role preferred.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation management software.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation industry standards.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications are a plus.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends if necessary.
