Job Description

SUMMARY
The Lead Test Engineer (Test Engineer IV) is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining test procedures, hardware, and software in a dynamic server manufacturing environment. This role leverages failure analysis techniques to identify root causes of issues and implement effective solutions. The Test Engineer IV also identifies, diagnoses, and resolves hardware and software challenges during testing and integration processes. Additionally, they lead and guide the Test Engineering team, promoting efficiency, integrity, and excellence in all tasks. The position involves developing and maintaining scripts to automate testing, analyzing data to support continuous improvement efforts, and evaluating system performance for AI/ML, GPGPU, and hardware accelerator-based server and storage platforms .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field (MSEE preferred).

Experience:

  • 6 years of relevant experience in failure analysis and electronic / hardware testing within a fast-paced manufacturing, mass production environment.

Technical Expertise:

  • Expertise with Linux Terminal and Bash scripting; ability to train others on Linux basics.
  • Intermediate programming skills in Bash and Python.
  • Advanced understanding of statistical analysis for data-driven decision-making.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Skills & Knowledge :

  • Proficiency in scripting languages, hardware/network troubleshooting, and Linux, with advanced command-line expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including WAN, LAN, switches, transceivers, and optical fibers.
  • Solid understanding of computer/server hardware and software integration, diagnostics, and repair.
  • Experience with performance and functional testing of complex compute systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw conclusions from data and recommend improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying and explaining complex concepts effectively.

Technical Responsibilities :

  • Design, develop, and maintain test procedures, tester hardware, and software in a fast-paced server manufacturing environment.
  • Perform failure analysis to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software-related issues during testing and integration processes.
  • Develop and maintain scripts to automate testing, collect and analyze data, and evaluate system performance for AI/ML and hardware accelerator-based platforms.
  • Lead test engineering staff to deliver high-quality results, fostering a culture of technical excellence.

Leadership & Collaboration :

  • Train and mentor engineers, technicians, and support staff on testing processes and procedures.
  • Act as a technical liaison for assigned customers, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
  • Drive continuous improvement by exploring new testing methods and technologies to enhance quality.
  • Monitor and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities through coordination with test engineers and technicians.

Team Recruitment & Development :

  • Recruit and interview test engineers and technicians.
  • Coach and mentor team members, identifying areas for growth and development.
  • Develop and validate training materials to support team competency.

Performance Management :

  • Set measurable goals for the team and monitor progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and recognition to team members.
  • Lead by example, fostering a positive and productive team culture.

Communication & Strategy Execution :

  • Clearly communicate department goals and expectations.
  • Adapt communication styles to suit team members and stakeholders.
  • Align team strategies with campus and organizational goals, ensuring progress is regularly reported.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company safety and security policies.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through process optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide regular updates on cost trends and strategies to improve value.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is frequently required to walk, and to lift and carry PC’s and test equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and use of computer monitor screens a great deal of time.



 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office setting, with some time spent each day on the manufacturing floor. The noise level in this environment ranges from low to moderate. Required PPE for the manufacturing area includes composite toed shoes, hearing protection, protective eyewear, and an ESD vest. The manufacturing floor is modernized, climate-controlled, and well-lit.
