ESI is now hiring a Headmaster for a classical school in the Irmo, SC area.

POSITION SUMMARY:

ESI is seeking a Headmaster for a new classical school who is responsible for guiding his or her campus and building it on the foundation of a the Western and American tradition, the associated Great Books, and thinkers which illuminate this underlying philosophy. The Headmaster will establish and steer the cultural vision for the school. By overseeing the opening and operation of this new campus, the Headmaster will undertake extensive planning, organizing, marketing, and staffing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with Master’s Degree or PhD preferred
• 5 years or more classroom experience in a classical setting
• Significant experience in classical liberal arts education and school leadership
• Must possess exceptional organizational skills and experienced management skills
• Dedication to the value of a rigorous liberal arts education
• Loyalty to the school's mission and vision
• Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s Core Virtues and the pursuit of the True, Good, and Beautiful
• Adherence to all school policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, including small packages and supplies
• Ability to pass Level 2 background check as required by state law

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implementing and evaluating the school’s mission and goals, reporting regularly to the board of directors.
• Maintaining a school atmosphere of academic excellence, civility, trustworthiness, respect, fairness, and equality.
• Planning, implementing, and evaluating the school instructional program based on student needs and South Carolina Standards.
• Setting instructional priorities and goals.
• Ensuring alignment of curriculum with Ohio Standards.
• Reviewing teacher lesson plans and instruction to ensure compliance with South Carolina Standards, the school’s mission, and the charter contract.
• Assuring that all academic components of the school’s charter are being met.
• Recruiting instructional faculty for the school as needed.
• Planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating all other programs, i.e. athletics, extra-curricular, co-curricular.
• Determining staffing needs including selection, supervision, staff development and evaluation of school instructional personnel.
• Managing state assessment procedures and compliance.
• Reporting instructional employee appointment or dismissal to the board of directors.
• Ensuring the school is operating within the set instructional budget.
• Overseeing the proper academic record keeping processes.
• Maintaining records such as but not limited to student test scores, attendance records, overseeing IEPs, and all other reports as needed for efficient operation of the school and compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
• Enforcing the policies and procedures of the organization as set by the board of directors, including the student code of conduct.
• Developing and implementing school rules and regulations in keeping with the policies and procedures.
• Attending and participating in meetings of the board and its committees as requested.
• Maintaining knowledge of Charter School Laws and South Carolina Statutes.
